More Dinosaur Projects

Carlos's dinosaur was Allosaurus.  I liked all the pictures that Carlos added of the dinosaur bones at the Museums.  I learned that Allosaurus lived in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Xavier's dinosaur was Triceratops.  He made a diorama of where the triceratops lived.  I learned that the Triceratops got its name in 1889 because of the three horns on its face.

Dinosaur Projects

Today, our class dinosaur projects were due.  Everyone did an awesome job coming up with facts about his or her dinosaur.  Here are some pictures of the kids with their project and some things that I learned about each dinosaur.

Tina's dinosaur was Ankylosaurus.  I learned that the only place he did not have plates was his belly and that it used its tail to break the legs of the T-Rex.

Xavier's dinosaur was Deinonychus.  I learned that I have actually been saying this dinosaur's name wrong.  I also learned it is two times bigger than velociraptor.

  IMG_0631

Martin's dinosaur was Velociraptor.  I learned that this dinosaur can run up to 40 miles per hour.  Our class decided that this is faster than you can drive on a Chicago street (though that is not always the case).

IMG_0632 Luis's dinosaur was Seismosaurus.  My favorite part of Luis's project is the picture that shows the Seismosaurus next to a human man.  I never realized they were so big.  Also, I learned that it was once thought that Seismosaurus had two brains!

IMG_0634

David's dinosaur was Diplodocus.  I learned that Diplodocus was the longest dinosaur of all and had a brain the size of a human fist.

IMG_0635

Kaylee's dinosaur was Stegosaurus.  I liked the fact that Stegosaurus was the size of a bus, had a head the size of a horse, and had a brain the size of a walnut.

Manuel's dinosaur was Tyrannosaurus Rex.  I found out that Tyrannosaurus Rex had the biggest teeth and was the meanest of all of the dinosaurs.

IMG_0638

Jacob's dinosaur was Brachiosaurus.  I learned that Brachiosaurus's name meant "Arm Lizard" and it ate plants instead of other animals.

Thank you to all of the friends and families that helped with these projects.  They all turned out so well!  Everyone did a great job!

Spring Concert

Last Wednesday, we had our annual Spring concert.  Our class sang with the third grade and everyone did a great job!  Here is a picture that I took of our classes singing at the dress rehearsal during school.

Last week our class learned about probability.  We worked in groups to figure out the probability of pulling certain color tiles out of a bag.  The groups found that the color that is pulled out most often is usually the color with the most tiles in the bag.  The class learned the words certain, likely, unlikely, and impossible, all of which can describe probability.  Here are some pictures of the groups picking tiles.

Spelling Words for the Week of May 11, 2009

We will not have any Spelling words this week.  I promised the class that if everyone came for May Crowning we would not have any words this week.  Everyone came just like I asked.  I really appreciate everyone coming and participating so much in the past few weeks.  Thank you!

Reminders

Just a few little reminders:

1.  May Crowning is next Sunday (May 10th).  It is very important that all second graders who participated in First Communion attend.  Children should be in the Church basement by 9:15 a.m.  We are doing the Mass with our 8th grade Faith Partners and everyone has a part in the Mass.

2.  Field trip permission forms for the Brookfield Zoo are due Wednesday, May 6th.

3.  Book order forms are due Friday, May 8th.
