Have a great summer!

It's hard to believe that 7th grade is over and today we start our summer vacation. It seems like just yesterday you were all walking into my classroom for the first time, anxious to start 7th grade! It has been wonderful working with all of you this year. I want to especially thank the 7th graders for being such a special part of my engagement last Friday. I am so glad that you were all a part of such a special day! I hope you all have a fun and relaxing summer, and I will see you back at school in August when you are 8th graders! Have a great summer! :)

Extra Credit

Good Afternoon,

Happy Spring!

I have decided to give students in 7th grade and in 5-8th grade religion an oppurtunity to do some extra credit. Students are only allowed to complete this extra credit if they do not currently have any missing assignments this quarter. I should have the extra credit to any students who qualify or are interested by Friday, May 8th. The extra credit will be due to me by Friday, May 18th in order to receive extra credit. Thanks!

Presentations

This is a reminder that the 7th grade presentations are due this Monday, April 6. Students chose their topics two weeks ago. They are to have at least one visual, they are to submit a paper to me summarizing their presentation, and they will need to turn in a bibliography for any sources they used to cite information in their preentation. Remember that I am looking more at HOW you present rather than what you are presenting. Be sure to go over the tips for preparing and presenting that I gave you last week to help you and over the weekend be sure to practice, practice, practice! I am excited to hear all the presentations on Monday.

Citywide 7th Grade Human Relations Essay Contest

Each year there is a citywide essay contest sponsored by the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations (CCHR). 7th grade are invited to submit an essay that gives students a chance to apply their own skills and knowledge to the topic of improving human relations in everyday life in Chicago. Students in 7th grade were all expected to at least submit a rough draft to me as part of their grammar grade. However, I told those students that chose to submit a final draft of the essay to be submitted in the contest that they would receive extra credit in grammar for their efforts. I am only permitted to submit a maximum of two essays. All of the essays that were turned in to me were really good and I am so proud of those students who took the time to think about such an important issue and put it into writing. I am pleased to announce that the essays that will be submitted to the citywide essay contest from our 7th grade classroom are Karina and Anngelika! Congratulations girls! Thank you to all of you who put forth the effort to submit an essay, and good luck to our two 7th graders as their essays have a chance to win some pretty big prizes! I will keep you posted on this! :)

Family Mass Sunday

This Sunday, March 8 at 9:45 there is a family mass at St. John Berchmans! The 5th grade class will be participating in this mass. Unfortunately, I cannot be at the mass because I will be with the 8th graders on their Confirmation Retreat. But I encourage all 7th grade students and their families to attend the mass that Mr. Schwider and the 5th graders have been working so hard on! I hope everyone has a great weekend. :)
