Lots of great fun plans for the new school year!!

Hello, Hello! Sad that Summer is over but so happy to see all the faces I missed so much over the break!

We are off to a great start, reviewing the basics. The fourth grade made color charts with construction paper. Don't they look awesome!

While the Second grade painted Color Wheels. You can never overdo the importance of understanding color in art!

Next week we are turning our color wheels into individual painting using our knowledge of color mixing.

Drawing basics with three different mediums, charcoal, pencil and pen were explored by the older classes. Just easing back into drawing after the long lazy days of summer.

 

  

I can't believe my little preschool friends are now in Kindergarden! This picture is a little dark but I just couldn't resist.  As you can see we made crazy party hats with all different types of lines in colorful construction paper and tissue.

And last but not least the first grade celebrated summer with HOT SUN paintings!! 
    






 

ODE TO SUMMER!

I cannot say enough about what a blast this summer was. Even with lost electricity, 100 degree days and a rained out beach trip I don't think it is possible that we could have had a more easygoing, funfilled camp!

We had a Dog Show, Improv and a Magician. Mike Meluch and Go Performance fitness came to demonstrate the importance of physicle fitness.

PIRATE WEEK! 

We had two beach days this year! Always a camp favorite.
 

  

 

FIELD DAYS was a first and what a success it was. Everyone was a winner! 
 

We ended Summer with a Carnival.

Art in April

First, I have to show you how our Sue turned out. Isn't she awesome!

We have been working hard finishing up our projects for the Art show in May. This year we will have a special section dedicated to Japan. A sort of thank you for all that they have given to America. It should be great. Here are a few previews.
   

First and fifth grade cherry blossom trees and second grade teapots.We have a lot more coming. The kindergarten are making Carp Wind Socks. In Japan, families make and fly carp shaped wind socks called koinobori for Children's day which is May 5th. The fourth graders are using electronic as their theme for some pretty awesome sculptures and the eighth graders are doing origami. Hope you will come to the show. The kids artwork is always fantastic.

Other things we are doing:Third grade flower impressions and 2nd graders did insect prints.

Gallagher Scholars

Five seventh graders at St. John Berchmans have been elected Gallagher Scholars. For the dinner this Tuesday night we made a replica of Sue from the Field Museum. Isn't it outstanding and we haven't painted it yet. Spring is Here!!

 
In after-school Arts and Crafts we made these awesome mixed media cityscape's with reflections on the water. Aren't these little animals cute! We made them out of cardboard rolls and old boxes. How cute are these bird houses!!And the kids who made them!



The fourth grade are doing a continuous printing piece. They each chose a piece of fruit. The kids drew them from beginning to end while eating. We will transfer the drawings to Styrofoam next week to make prints of each stage.
 

The fourth grade also did these beautiful pastel flowers. Spring is here!!!

Masquerade Ball

Thursday March 3rd there will be a celebration to kick of the Glimmer on Friday night. We are having a Masquerade ball and parade at 2:00 pm in the Church Hall. Everyone is Welcome!!  We have been making masks in Art for the last three weeks. Your children are unbelievable. They are so enthusiastic and can make something wonderful out of nothing. Wait till you see how fantastic everyones masks are!! Here is a sneak peek.


 

Masquerade Party on Thursday not Friday

I am so sorry but the Masquerade party is on Thursday March 3rd not Friday March 4th. Hopefully I did not cause any problems for anyone. The kids are very excited to show off their masks. Please come if you can. It should be lots of mysterious fun!!! 

The new year in the Art room

Lots going on in the Art room these days. Our eighth graders have been painting like the masters. It always amazes me how fantastic their final work turns out. Here they are hard at work. It looks like they are coming along nicely doesn't it?

 
 

The third grade did torn paper mosaic owls. Awesome!

The kindergarden used tempera blocks to paint their self portraits. They had fun mixing colors to make skin tones and shading. Here is a particularly cute one.Doesn't it really look like her. I wish I had those eyelashes.

It looks like SPRINGTIME in the second grade! Aren't these mixed medea flowers gorgeous!!!

The seventh grade are working on magazine mosaics. Here are a few works in progress Fantastic!

We will be doing a large mosaic with recycled bottle caps. We need all the caps we can collect so if you have any send some along with your students(any grade). Thank you in advance.

 I can't wait to show you our masks for the masquerade ball. We will be kicking off the Glimmer with an All School Masquerade ball in the cafeteria on Friday March 4th at 2:00. If you'd like to stop by to see the creations, please do so. Any volunteers are welcomed. See you soon! Ms. Petie

Field trip with the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Graders

 

In the words of all four docents at the Loyola University Museum of Art, "The best behaved kids they have ever had and they all were so inquisitive." We had the best time! The kids enjoyed a lunch of pizza and WHATEVER SODA THEY DESIRED (best part of the trip). After lunch we walked two blocks over to the museum. They had an exhibit with one hundred and twenty nativity sets. I think we have some ideas for auction items this spring!
